Unique Hand Painted Textile Creations from Zambia

“AFRICAN AMBIENCE” was borne from a passion for wildlife conservation in Africa. John and Angela Lemon, founders of “African Ambience” have been doing conservation in Zimbabwe, Namibia and Zambia with the endangered Painted Dog over the last 12 years. It was during a field trip to Zambia that a community development initiative called “Tribal Textiles” was discovered. “AFRICAN AMBIENCE” is now the Australian Stockist for these beautiful creations. Tribal Textiles is located in the heart of the African bush in the Luangwa Valley, Zambia. This rural craft generates employment and self sufficiency in the community, and supports and promotes fair trade. Not only are these products individually created by local artisans, but by employing local people this not only creates skills and capacity building, but also brings income into the community. In addition, in conjunction with the government, local community and private investors, Tribal Textiles was able to establish “Malimba” –the local school. They continue to support the school and it continues to grow and prosper (see Products-Malimba page for further information). In fact, we stock a range of products specifically to raise funds for Malimba Community School. As you can see, these products are not only unique in their design, but truly support the community in which they were created. Products range from greeting cards, cushion covers, table runners, tablecloths, placemats, napkins, bed linen, wall hangings and a great children’s range-including height charts, rucksacks and hats. All products are available in a range of both traditional and contemporary designs. All products are made from 100% cotton sourced from Southern Africa and can be hand washed in warm water. We believe in Fair Trade and Community Development initiatives. By selling these textiles, not only does this showcase the talent of these individuals, but capacity builds the 100 staff that Tribal Textiles employs.
